Easy DIY Wedding Ideas--That Save You Money

Updated on July 19, 2019

We all know that weddings can be ridiculously expensive. However by doing some things yourself, you can save tons of money. Whether you're having a themed wedding of just following the season, there are plenty of diy ideas and tips to get you started on any task for your wedding day. Below are just a few easy diy projects that can save you money on your wedding day.

Invitations:

Why spend hundreds of dollars on invitations when they are only going to get thrown out after the event? You can easily make them yourselves for less.

Short on time or do not have the creative skills to put them together? No problem! There are tons of websites out there that you can use to create your own invitations. You can choose a color palette, design, and whether you want the company to assemble them or not. It's so easy, and way cheaper than spending hundreds of dollars on a piece of paper that is going to get trashed. Let's face it, not everyone is even going to read and return the invites. There are always those people you have to track down, or wonder "are they coming or not?". Don't waste money on something that's sole purpose is only to tell people when and where the event is going to be.

Looking for something a little easier? Many local printing companies offer wedding invitation options. Many will also allow you to pick your wording, and colors without the pricey cost of online orders and shipping.

Centerpieces:

Finding the right centerpieces can be a major pain, especially if you do not have any specific theme for your wedding. Why waste hundreds of dollars on something you are unlikely to reuse? Instead find simple yet elegant ways to decorate your tables while still saving money.

For example, are you having a fall or country wedding? Why not try some of these simple and earthy center piece ideas that not only save time, but are easy to assemble. My fiancé and I are mixing a few of these ideas together and are also saving a bundle by finding the stones for the bottom of our candle holders right in his own backyard. We are using pieces of wood from my dad's work to make the gorgeous wood center stages for the candles. Who knew saving could be so easy?

Centerpieces don't have to be expensive to look elegant and beautiful. Tap into your imagination and use your resources to find great and easy ways to save money.

Flowers:

Another way to save money is on flowers. Not only are fake/silk flowers less expensive they also have the opportunity to be reused or sold online making them worth the price you paid for them. Another way to save is to eliminate the boutonnieres and corsages assuming its okay with both parties. Or you could exchange the bridesmaid bouquets for something more personal like cute beaded bracelets with a single flower head on them that can be worn all night long.

In my case, again we are saving tons by growing them ourselves. Buying bulbs and planting them so they will bloom and be ready for cutting a few days before the wedding day is another great way to save on the budget. Bulbs will grow multiple flower heads allowing you to buy less flower bulbs than if you were to actually go to the store and buy the individual flowers.

We chose to go with http://www.americanmeadows.com/ for our bulbs. They have a great selection of flowers and personally guarantee your satisfaction. We found everything we were looking for and then some. The great thing about this site is that they have plenty of discounts and coupons and are always getting new flowers so it's great to go back and see what's new.

Not good with gardening? Bulbs are known to be a easier plant to grow and transplant and can be grown indoors and out. When in doubt you can always buy a practice bulb and see how it turns out, considering it is still cheaper than buying real flowers.

Another great option, if it's in season is the farmers market. A few friends and I went to the farmers market the day of one of their weddings and picked out flowers to make our own beautiful bouquets. In this case the "theme" was wildflowers, so we did not need to find specific flowers. The bouquets turned out absolutely beautiful and each bridesmaid had their own unique bouquet. The were all tied with the same blueish ribbon and shared one or two flowers in common to help keep the theme of the wedding.
